Personally, I like the aesthetic of the second one better, but the boxing theme does not really make sense. The first one is kind of meh. If you are asking why I opted to put my second favorite first, it is because the sound is better in the first one, and, ultimately, isn’t that what it is really about? No, idiot, not when you are talking about which of two music videos is better. So, yeah, in retrospect, I should have reversed the order, but I am not rewriting this paragraph.

Query: if you were making a pro-Obama YouTube video, would this be the song that you would choose? Personally, um, no, absolutely not, but, after the jump, somebody disagrees:

This fascinates me for so many reasons. Ok, I grant that U.S. elections are held in November, but, seriously, what the hell? Either somebody is completely misunderstanding the song (which, I guess, theoretically, could be me) or somebody is operating on a level of irony that is beyond me? Is he or she just focusing on the word “hope” in “I’m the great white hope” without understanding the connotations and history of the phrase? I agree that Obama “will not fuck us over,” but was he not setting the bar substantially higher than that? YouTube commenters are seemingly unanimous in thinking that this is the bee’s knees, but obviously they are not exactly a trustworthy or even sentient source of informed opinion. Still, am I completely wrong that this is a horrible song selection for these purposes? Why do I even care about this? So many questions. Ok, I’m done.

You know how they produce a highlight video for every major sports champion? Can someone do the same thing for Ken Jennings’ Jeopardy! performance?

Obviously, his first and last episodes are the bookends. Other things that should be included:

• close calls (i.e. where he was in danger of losing)
• reaction shots of competitors looking cold amazed at what they are witnessing
• audacious Daily Doubles
• where he just cold dominates a round
• wacky or just funny bloopers

Things that should not be included:  I want to see as little of Trebek as possible. Sorry, but Ferrell and SNL ruined him for me.

I will note that I only saw a couple of episodes of Jennings run when I was back home with my parents. Nevertheless, I was duly impressed; he was pretty amazing. Also, I have not recently read anything about his run while composing this post, so I don’t actually know if he had any close calls or bloopers to comprise the video.

Seriously, I would pay up to $19.95 for this, and I bet six or seven other people would too.

Lastly, if I sent this to Jeopardy’s!’s producers (I think Merv Griffin is involved somehow) would they: (a) ignore it, (b) do it for real or (c) do it, but just for me, personally (i.e. create a DVD specifically for me. (c) would be awesome beyond words.

1. I once was at the Bluebird Cafe at the same time as Earl Scruggs (or perhaps it was another bluegrass legend). There are a couple of individuals who can confirm this, and, if I happen to talk to one of them again, I will ask. Anyway, Scruggs or the other living legend grew perturbed with our group because we were being too loud and distracting from the performance. That’s pretty embarrassing.

This glaring omission aside, the article is not completely terrible. Most importantly, it contains some very pertinent points for those of you who complain that we do not post enough.

Berkeley professor Ms. Chatman warns that having too many personal details available online can be “easily misinterpreted by a potential employer who is interested in hiring the professional you.” Employers might use the information to weed out applicants before conducting an interview.

What’s more, Susan Strayer, a career counselor based in Washington, D.C., warns that keeping a blog can turn into a significant time commitment with unknown rewards. “Blogging is addictive,” she says. If you spend too much time writing entries, “it takes away from the search,” says Ms. Strayer, who is also a human-resources executive for a major hotel company.

McGruff, a.k.a. D.C. police officer Tyrone Hardy, was passing out flyers to children at the corner of
14th Street and Spring Road in Northwest Washington around 2:30 p.m. Saturday when a Metro bus pulled up to the curb.

The bus driver, 38-year-old Shawn Brim, climbed out of the bus, adjusted both sideview mirrors and then slugged McGruff in the face with his closed fist, according to a police report. Because the huge McGruff head offered little visibility, Hardy didn’t see the punch coming, one officer said.

McGruff staggered, children screamed and the crime dog’s attacker jumped back into the bus and drove off, police said. A call of an assault on a police officer went out over the police radio while passengers on the bus yelled at Brim.

Well, there is this:

Brim has a history of arrests in the District of Columbia, including for prostitution in Oct. 30, 2006, possession of PCP in 1994 and possession of a gun in 1990, according to court records. In each case, prosecutors declined to file the charges in court.

Brim, 38, later told a supervisor that he was trying “to be funny,” Metro spokeswoman Candace Smith told The Examiner on Monday.

“But nobody here finds it funny, believe me,” Smith said. “That kind of behavior is not tolerated.”

I am going to go ahead and confess that I find it funny.

Also, while we are on the subject, can we update McGruff a little? I am not sure that a tan trenchcoat-wearing, Karl Malden-sounding detective archetype really resonates with the kids today. My suggestion would be to use the following as inspiration:
